Graveyard Shivved (2008??)

 Challenge set by Rakie:

Crumbs, I'm a bit late this year, aren't i?  usually we get the Halloween story challenge loads before now.

Okie-dokie, well, better late than never.  Since we've been a bit quiet here recently I'm assuming y'all have lots and lots of spare time on your hands to be writing stories.  *G*  So here is your Halloween challenge (whether you choose to accept it or not, lol):

WRITE A STORY SET IN A GRAVEYARD

Nice and simple, nice and spooky.  Anything goes, anything is acceptable, so long as it takes place in or around a graveyard.  Bonus points will be awarded for the following (non compulsory) items:

A severed head; a bowl of pumpkin soup; a polar bear; glow-sticks; a rubber knife; death by garden implement; a bad pun; darrell's trenchcoat; jami's halo; an edjog; a trap door; a fake plastic witch on a broomstick; a happy ending.

Right then, off you go, get writing!!  *G*

The whole idea had been a stupid one.

A ridiculous dare made by a group of teenagers, trying to out-do each other.

But now, less than 24 hours later, one of them was dead.

This year had been the turn of Sam Johnson to come up with up their annual Halloween challenge. As one of the last members of the group to pick something, he had a lot to contend with.

The first time they’d come up with the idea, Jake, who was the eldest, had taken it upon himself to come up with a suitable test. At that time they were not even teenagers, so his idea had been a fairly innocuous deal with a spider. Not very scary at all,

That had been followed the next year by Sarah, who thought they should all sneak into the carnival’s ghost train and pretend to be mannequins, scaring the customers.

Every year, with each member of the group competing with what had happened the previous years, the challenges became more and more …..

And now, eight years since the loyal friends had begun this strange custom, it was Sam’s turn.

Here she was, sat in a cold, dark corner, surrounded by graves and obelisks, waiting to catch photographic proof of ghosts.

It had seemed like a good idea at the time. They were all fans of ghostly TV programs and spooky goings-on. They had all, at one time or another, been in the graveyard before -but always during daylight hours. And of course, Halloween was the perfect occasion for a ghost-hunt.
